Where in the World?
Wondering what your counselors have been up to since last summer? Where in the world they've been and what super cool stuff they have done. We'll post more updates as we get them, so come back often and check it out....
It's official! Matt Rideout, our assistant director, and Sarah Randolph, our 2007 camp nurse are engaged to be married! Matt popped the question in late September on Black Balsam Mountain, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. It looks like they'll be tying the knot this coming April in the Asheville area. Congratulations!
Rhane Pfeiffer stuck around camp for a few weeks before heading off to his next grand adventure out West. He hiked several 10,000+ ft. mountains in Oregon, Washington and Alaska, where he even took time to pan for gold - with some success! He's now returned to the Land of Arrowhead to work on several projects on campus and in the area.
One of several of our summer staff who have gone international, Mark Sauls now resides in the small village of Villa Nuria in Honduras. He's been busy killing snakes, fighting off poison ivy, dodging hurricanes, and more importantly - serving as a missionary to both local elementary students and the elderly. Keep up the good work Mark.
To launch the Adventures of Chief Bogalusa (stay tuned for more on that), Jeff Killebrew, Rhane Pfeiffer, Brian Smith and Shannon Thompson drove down to New Orleans/Baton Rouge and watched the Desire Street Academy football team in action. They enjoyed reconnecting with these Children of Promise campers and also saw first-hand the impact Hurricane Katrina continues to have on the Desire neighborhood and the city of New Orleans.
Wayne Maury has been TCOB at UNCC, researching cognitive neuroscience and also serving as Student Director of Family Orientation at Winthrop. Mary La Montagne, barn staff in 2006 and early in '07 has been "estudiando en la tierra de vino y sol" in Mendoza, Argentina. She says she's enjoying riding horses, studying South American composers and soaking up the local culture during opportunities to travel.
