Food for Thought

This page is dedicated to providing some spiritual content for our campers and staff. Arrowhead directors will occassionally post new information to ponder. We want to encourage you to grow in your faith by providing a passage of scripture, a thought or challenge to consider and talk about with others. Dig in!

The Mile Markers of Life

Decisions. We make them everyday. Even before we get out of bed we decide if we’re going to ignore the alarm, hit the snooze a few times or go ahead and welcome the day. Every now and then, adults make major, life-altering decisions, but even children make decisions everyday that shape the person they become.

Do I eat this bug? Do I touch that snake? Do I tell my parents what just happened? Should I hang out with this crowd? Do I play football or piano? Should I actually study for this test? Do I give my very best effort or do I simply do what it takes to get by?

Wisdom is a prized commodity. In the Bible’s Old Testament book of I Kings, God offered to give Solomon anything he desired. Instead of requesting wealth or long life or victory over his foes, young Solomon asked for a wise and discerning heart. Not a bad decision!

Throughout the summer we talked about how the choices we make can have a deep impact on our lives. The words we use. The things we believe. The way we treat others. As adults, we can look back on our youth and see that certain decisions we made or actions we took became mile markers in our journey, for better or worse.

Campers – think about how you spend your allowance – that decision shows what’s important to you. Think about becoming a friend to someone you might not have hung out with last year – that shows confidence and character. Think about saying no when you’re friends are doing something you know you shouldn't do – that shows wisdom and courage many adults never achieve.

You may struggle to make these bold decisions. Remember God is there to help you, and you can pray for the wisdom of Solomon. Regardless of the situation, including God in your life is always a great decision!
