Food for Thought

This page is dedicated to providing some spiritual content for our campers and staff. Arrowhead directors will occassionally post new information to ponder. We want to encourage you to grow in your faith by providing a passage of scripture, a thought or challenge to consider and talk about with others. Dig in!

Stand at the crossroads and look; Ask for the ancient paths, Ask where the good way is, and walk in it, And you will find rest for your souls.  Jeremiah 6:16 NIV

Boys need men to guide them. They need a father figure that (I believe and is evidenced by scripture) play a key role in the development of a boy. The father figure offers strength to the boy along his path to becoming a man and guides him in a way that is different but mutually dependant to how a mother guides a boy.

My mother taught me compassion and commitment to those I met and for the things I involved myself. She also taught me sincerity and honesty. My father bestowed in me the ability to stand up to those in opposition or for those that needed the help (when doing so was right and moral), my “how-to-tiveness”, my strength as a leader in the home, work and community. My father was an example of selfless giving to his family, those he met in life and through his work ethic. I learned a great deal from my father and continue to develop that relationship now that I’m married and making my way in the world. Although there are things about him that I would change, his example has made me the man that I am today.

The examples of fatherhood that we use at camp with your son(s) are the examples that we experienced in our lives by precious relationships with our fathers, friends and mentors. Every boy wants someone to look up to and wants confirmation that he is a growing man. Although our earthly fathers and mentors will inevitably fail us we have affirmation that our heavenly father will never fail us. As evidenced by Romans 5:8 God loves us sacrificially and we in turn are to show that same love to others. “God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Our goal at camp is to show the boys within our gates the love of God in a sacrificial way. The staff are intentional and reminded that the summer is not all about them. Our mission is to offer your son the best summer ever and to develop a lasting relationship as a fellow brother and the role model of a loving father. From our own positive relationships we offer your son the love of God as unconditionally as we are able.
