All You Need to Do is Look
You, me, and Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz – we have a lot in common.  We all know what it’s like to find ourselves in a distant land surrounded by strange people, or faced with a problem we believe we can never resolve. Although our path isn’t paved with yellow bricks, we still hope it will lead us home.

You remember the plot. Each of the chief characters comes to the Wizard with a need.  Dorothy seeks a way home. The scarecrow wants wisdom. The tin man desires heart. The lion needs Courage. They have determined the Wizard could grant all four. Trembling and reverent, the four shiver in the Wizard’s presence and gasp at his power. With all the courage they can muster, they present their request.

His response: he will help after they demonstrate their worthiness. He will help as soon as they overcome the source of evil. As soon as you bring me the witch's broom, he says, I will help you.

So they do. They scale the castle walls and melt the wicked witch. Along the way they make some startling discoveries. They discover that a quick mind can handle the best that the worst has to offer. And they discover they can do it all without the Wizard.

The moral of The Wizard of Oz: everything you may need, you may already have.

Christ places His power in those who place their faith in Him. He has given us every thing we need. When faced with struggle remember Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
