You have lots of boys summer camps to choose from...see why Camp Arrowhead is different.

What Makes Camp Arrowhead Different?

When it comes to choosing a summer camp, the task can be a bit overwhelming. With thousands of choices in the United States, and hundreds in North Carolina alone, we understand the challenge of finding the right option for your camper.

Why Camp Arrowhead? The individual factors we have listed below do not make us unique in and of themselves, but taken as a group, these characteristics set us apart and will help you determine if Camp Arrowhead for Boys is right for you. So, what makes us different?

We are a Small Camp
Large camps aren’t necessarily bad, but it’s easy for campers to get lost in the crowd when you are one of hundreds of boys. At Camp Arrowhead, we view our capacity of 132 boys as a great asset – we will know your son and will be able to help him meet individual needs and goals. We are a brotherhood…a family…and you can see how that is much more achievable at a smaller camp.

We are a Boys Camp
That fact may seem fairly obvious, but it’s important to consider whether or not to send your son to a co-ed or boys only camp. If you are looking to provide an environment where your son can safely (and without embarrassment or distraction from the female population) explore nature and community with other males, a boys camp is the way to go! The comradery and friendships created at a boys camp are immeasurably valuable to your sons growth and development, and our alumni tell us these bonds remain strong throughout a lifetime. Need a girls camp too?

We are a Christian Camp
Secular and religious camps alike often hold similar values in high esteem, but our approach to modeling Christian values sets us apart from other options for your camper. We are not denominationally affiliated, and we are not a church or Bible camp, which means we do not have religious training as part of our programming. However, our directors and staff share and live out the Gospel of Christ in front of our boys through morning devotions, Sunday chapels, mealtime prayers, mentoring relationships and conversations that flow from enjoying God’s creation. Our passion is to help every boy become the man God created him to be.

We are a High-adventure Camp
Just considering the types of camps to choose from can be mind-boggling! Sports camps, music camps, art camps, computer camps…the list goes on and on. At Camp Arrowhead, we provide an excellent mix of traditional summer camp activities like archery, riflery, horseback riding, swimming and field sports, but we focus on high-adventure programming and offer activities our campers often cannot do at home: rock climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, paintball, fly fishing, survival skills, ropes courses and more. We believe this type of programming meets and challenges a boy’s heart for fun and adventure, pushing him to excel in ways he never thought possible.

We are an Established Camp
Camp Arrowhead for Boys was founded in 1937 by Joe and Mary Bell. The Bell family, instrumental in establishing numerous camps in the area, owned and operated the camp until 1996. In 2007 we celebrated our 70th anniversary with alumni who recalled decades of cherished memories, noting many traditions that remain central to the Arrowhead experience even today. Your son will benefit from becoming part of our story.

We are a NC Mountain Camp
From coast to coast and border to border, you have a limitless number of options on what type of weather and geography you desire for your son’s camp experience. Just in this great state you can send your son to a sailing camp on the coast, a sports camp in the Piedmont, or a high-adventure camp in Western North Carolina and take advantage rock faces, rushing rivers, elevation changes and national forests that make this region one of the most sought after in the country. Camp Arrowhead’s own 217 acres, our temperate weather and surrounding national parks and forests provide an absolute adventure-dreamworld for curious and growing boys.

We are an Accommodating Camp
Some camps offer only week-long sessions, while others require at least four weeks of your summer. At Camp Arrowhead, we believe in the value of longer sessions, but also understand how valuable the short summer is for your family. As a result, we offer sessions of varying lengths: one, two, three, four and seven-week sessions are all available during our nine-week summer camp season.
